The Southold Town Democrats are proud to introduce their candidates to run for election in Southold Town in 2021, nominated at a virtual convention held on March 2nd, 2021.

These six candidates will bring needed transparency, accountability, productivity, energy, experience, and diversity into Town Hall, strengthening the leadership and expertise of our town for all the residents of Southold.

The Screening Committee interviewed dozens of phenomenal candidates this year. They spent over 24 hours meeting and deliberating on the best representation for this town out of a pool of highly qualified residents. We were honored to interview half a dozen people for Town Council seats- respected business and civic leaders from the community came forward to be considered for these positions – which reflects not only the strong desire for change in Southold right now, but also the respect and opportunity for the Southold Democrats.

We are thrilled to introduce our team and couldn’t be more pleased to work hard over the next nine months to elect them to office.

Introducing the Democratic Candidates:

Greg is an ideal choice for Town Council. He blew the community away 2 years ago when, totally new to the local political landscape, he lost by a mere 117 votes to a 12- year incumbent for Town Supervisor. He has demonstrated bi-partisan support, is passionate about bringing needed change to Town Hall, and is an experienced, thoughtful, and dynamic leader. “I’m running for our Town Council because I feel called to do the hard work required to preserve the irreplaceable character of our community,” says Greg. “And if you look around, it’s clear: time is running out.”

We were thrilled that Brian O. Mealy stepped forward for this opportunity. Brian’s many civic leadership positions are too numerous to list, but he is most proud of his leadership and service with the Mattituck-Cutchogue School Board, and ESBOCES Board. His kindness and respect for and by all people in Southold, regardless of party, is unmatched. The Southold Dems will be honored to elect a public servant with his experience and heart for the community. Additionally we will be honored to elect the first African American elected official in Southold’s history. “I am looking forward to campaigning with my fellow Democrats for a more transparent and efficient town government, and I am excited to speak with the good people of Southold about what’s important in their lives,” Mealy states.

Dan Goodwin amazed us with his experience in management, engineering, and machinery. A life-long resident of Southold, Dan is eager to serve this community and improve our town’s responsiveness and infrastructure as Superintendent of Highways.

Our candidates for Town Trustee, Eric Sepenoski, Liz Gillooly, and Elizabeth Peeples, will bring much needed energy and expertise to this Board. We are proud that, if elected, Elizabeth would be the town’s first openly LBGTQ elected official. These candidates’ diverse backgrounds in farming, real estate, design, environmental science, and the health of our waters make them ideal candidates to protect the health and wellbeing of our town’s waterways.

Elections will be held Tuesday, November 2nd, 2021
